New to blogging? This “How To” page is here just in case you’d like your own but don’t know how to start. There are lots of other options not mentioned here, but this is what I did, and it was pretty easy! It really is a good way for people to share news, experiences, thoughts and photos. Everyone’s is different and that is fun.

First, you can get a free blog at wordpress.com or blogger.com (there are lots of others too!). They give you all you need—web space, templates and instructions. They’re really easy to set up and get started.

Note: If you are more technically-minded you can register a domain name, get some web-hosting space, download open source blogging software, and end up with a lot more options. But for a beginner, I would recommend the free, simple route—even though it is more limited. Wordpress (what I’m most familiar with) has a really good pros and cons comparison here.

Then, get Google Reader or Bloglines, (I am sure there are others) to “subscribe” to other people’s blogs. When you go to your Google Reader or Bloglines page, you get notified if any of the blogs you’re interested in have any new posts. It’s pretty neat because you don’t have to go to each blog to see if there’s anything new, it lets you know!

Have fun!

Mike

I was never able to get comfortable with the Google interface. My current web-based feed reader is http://bloglines.com which has some really great features, a nifty cool beta version out and testable by everyone, and modified pages which are available to read your feed from your mobile phone.

Very awesome work, Mike. It was neat to read the posts about Grandma, and to be able to access the photo album. Thank you for that.

Like the concept of using CO2 for fuel. What a hopeful idea!
