A comfort zone denotes that limited set of behaviors that a person will engage without becoming anxious. Alternatively denoted as a “plateau” it describes that set of behaviors that have become comfortable, without creating a sense of risk. A person’s personality can be described by his or her comfort zones. Highly successful persons may routinely step outside their comfort zones, to accomplish what they wish. A comfort zone is a type of mental conditioning that causes a person to create and operate mental boundaries that are not real. Such boundaries create an unfounded sense of security.

Like inertia, a person who has established a comfort zone in a particular axis of his or her life, will tend to stay within that zone without stepping outside of it. To step outside a person’s comfort zone, he must experiment with new and different behaviors, and then experience the new and different responses that then occur within his environment. I’ve got more personal thoughts about “comfort zones” here.

Now about me:

My name is Michael Comfort. I was born in Costa Rica. My missionary parents were studying Spanish there. My three brothers and I spent most of our adventurous childhood in Bolivia. Part of it was in the jungle town of Caranavi, and the other part in the city of La Paz (13,000 ft). Since I was 12, I’ve lived mostly in Newberg and Dundee, Oregon (I left and came back several times).

I am an 8th generation Quaker (Evangelical Friends International, Northwest Yearly Meeting of Friends), and follower of Jesus.

vglogoI’ve been a graphic designer for over 20 years. My day job is at Vineyard Graphics in Newberg. I also work part-time (at home, nights and or weekends) for MeadowLand Corporation, designing grass seed packaging, marketing materials, displays, etc). I am thankful I can support my family doing what I love.

Speaking of what I love…

  • Deanne, my wife for over 22 years
  • My kids:
  • Alison
  • Aaron
  • Austin

I currently have this “Phalacrophobia” you speak of. I love the logo. Phenominal work.

    An update to this Bio…

While some in our family were laughing about the fears I listed, Alison’s bright comment was that “glossophobia” actually fits “the fear of going bald” better!
