Intent on catching a few minutes of sun on my lunch break today, I decided to see if there were any new birds at my favorite spot, not too far from where I work.
When I first arrived there were none, but I sat down on the grass anyway, and waited. After a few minutes my patience was rewarded —a Red-winged Blackbird flew in!
According to bird web sites, the Red-winged Blackbird is one of the most abundant birds across North America, and one of the most boldly colored.
After snapping a few pics, the Killdeer showed up!
A moment later, a Snipe flew out of his hiding place among the water plants! He had been there all along. (Probably watching me the whole time!)

Great reward! Way to go.
We’re just leaving Tillamook headed north. Jesse’s team got beat yesterday. We stayed at Whaler’s Rest and spent time at their house evening and mid day. We’re staying at Seaside tonight and tomorrow afternoon until Sunday at Oysterville, WA. Dennis and Nicole will be at our place Wed evening and overnight without us. Sorry we had this other retreat at WA.
And all these years I thought Snipe hunting was an old campout trick! I love bird watching, too. We’ve got a bald eagle nest not too far from our house and get to watch them fly over frequently.
