Big snow!

I went out into the field across the street, and pushed the big straight-edge down into the snow… 14″ and still coming down!

Our Jeep can still go out in this stuff, but that Mazda in the background is not going anywhere!)

Hey! There appears to be a bald-eagle on our garage roof…

The Leanin’ Tree

We have a tall Pine tree near our house that has been leaning for quite a while. With 14 inches of snow, and 1/2″ of ice, this tree is REALLY leaning now!

Here’s a very un-nerving photo of the tree and it’s proximity to our house… wow!

This next angle takes most of the worry away, as it looks like it is likely to miss the house. I’m almost hoping the ice and snow brings it down, so I won’t have to pay to have it done! (Unfortunately, it’ll undoubtably take out the fence!)

Ever seen a Snipe?

If you are like me, you’ve never seen one. They don’t exist you know. At least that’s what I grew up believing. My older cousins once took me out “snipe hunting” when I was in grade school. After that, I KNEW they didn’t exist.

Well, today I actually SAW one! Deanne and I went out picture taking in the snow and ice today, and I decided to take her over to the place where I saw the Red-tailed Hawk and the Killdeer.

There it was… a type of bird that I was not familiar with — long thin beak, striped body, white belly, and brownish tail feathers. After shooting a few pics, we went over to my parents where we got some cocoa and had a look at their bird book. There it was… a Wilson’s Snipe. The DO exist after all!
