“I’ve had a good life.”

My grandmother passed away yesterday, ending a long and fruitful life on this earth, as well as a wonderfully sweet and memorable week. Those of us who were fortunate enough to be with her will cherish the memories from these past few days and nights for the rest of our lives.

Each day and through many long nights this week we sat with her, watched her, read the Bible and sang with her, listened as she quoted scripture, said goodbye, and held her hand. Her fragile condition would improve and recede many times, just like the tide at the ocean. She finally went peacefully to heaven on Friday morning, my birthday.

Ruth Brown loved Jesus and was ready to go to see Him, so it is a start of something new for her!

Yay! It’s my Birthday!

This is a picture of my Mom and I on my birth day 47 years ago…it wasn’t my first birthday though, that came a year later—in 1962! I suppose today technically could be called my “48th birthday” if you add the one I had one year before my first birthday.

Here’s something to think about…even though I might say I’m turning 47 today, I am really done with 47. Starting today, I am actually in my 48th year of life, but I will say I’m 47 if someone asks me how old I am (if I can remember)! Confusing, huh? And now that I think about it, my Gramma Ruth is nearly done with her 98th year, even though she (and other people) say she’s ninety-seven-and-a-half.

Moving on now… Hey—I did have hair! And yes…they did have color film in those days!

Thanks for having me Mom!

Warm Ears

My niece, Misty, made me a very nice present for my birthday! (Yes, I opened it a day early!)

She knitted these awesome ear warmers that fit on my bike helmet. They have a soft inner lining that is hand-stitched to the knitting, so they are very warm!

I do ride in the cold from time to time, and I have pretty good gear for staying warm—except for my ears! I have tried various things: thin stocking cap, bandanna, etc., and nothing has worked very well up to this point. I’m anxious to try them out! Thanks Misty!

Here’s a picture. I’m holding the picture that she included in the package to show how they work.
