It’s almost ready to lift out! All I need to unhook are the axles, exhaust, and motor mounts.
Yes, I am really enjoying it, even though:
- It’s cold out there in the garage
- It takes me long time to do some things that should be simple
- It feels a bit overwhelming at times!
Other plusses so far: I got to listen to 2 Blazer games, and the State of the Union address on the radio!

Ummm…. Holy cow.
I know that my high school aptitude test said I should be a farm machinery mechanic. I don’t know what was wrong with that test because that tangled mess in that picture (what it looks like to me) makes me shudder and anxious just sitting here in my warmness.
I am glad that you are enjoying it.
Oh wow…What a great comment, Alan. You really cracked me up!
You are right. It is an incredible mess! You can’t really see it in the picture, but I have been marking the wires and cables, hoses etc, so I’ll have some kind of a clue when it’s time to put it all back! (Notice the masking tape by the windshield)
Also, notice the pop cans in the upper right. Those help too.(Your observations on my “Christmas in Poland” photo have made me look a lot closer at what else is in a picture!)
Hey – I could picture you in cover-alls and a John Deer cap! From what my cousin in Idaho tells me, modern tractors now plow entire fields by GPS (even controls the steering). So you could use your computer skills, in addition to being muddy and cold!
I see that stuff now. That’d help. But, still too many things which I don’t know what they’re for… “Connects to mid-size black round thing found behind the large blue jug” would by one of my captions.
You’re right, Mike. Farming has gone high-tech with GPS-driven tractors from sowing to reaping, remote in-soil nutrient analysis sensors with cell data or satellite uplinks, and satellite-based soil moisture mapping to adjust the patterns of GPS-assisted irrigation systems. Not our grandparent’s farm any more.
I admire your attitude. Reminds me of that old song, “You’ve got to acc-cent-uate the positive. E-lim-in-ate the negative….
Looks like a terrible mess to me, who once poured oil in the air filter in Bolivia when I couldn’t get the generator to start to talk to Dad on the shortwave radio! Mom
Keep plugging along on that motor! (or unplugging along?)
I heard of someone one time that took a picture of everything before he unhooked it. My dad is a mechanic and he lays everything out on the floor in the same order it came apart in. That was a very helpful tip when I started taking my sewing machines apart to fix them. I hold all mechanical people in very high regard.
Nice work.
Thanks for the encouragement and tips! I’m sure enjoying the interaction on this topic.
